Taguig, a city in the Philippines that is part of the Metro
Manila division, is unlike any other city in the country. One reason for this
is that Taguig is home to the Bonifacio Global City, Metro Manila's second most important business district and
a notable tourism, shopping, culinary, and amusement hotspot. Other attractions
include the Manila American Cemetery and the affluent McKinley Hill
neighborhood - yet another reason to visit Taguig!
History of Taguig
Taguig has evolved from a
progressive fishermen's society along the shores of Laguna de Bay to a leading
private and business-related center connected to the Philippines' heart. Prior
to the arrival of the Spaniards, Taguig was a Chinese settlement, as evidenced
by the discovery of Chinese characters on glasses, plates, and other utensils,
and is said to have existed since China's Ming dynasty. When the Spaniards
succeeded in enslaving territory Luzon through the Legazpi expedition in 1571,
Taguig was one of the first known regions to be Christianized. According to the
2015 census, Taguig is the Philippines' seventh-most crowded city, after
Zamboanga City, with a population of nearly 900,000 people.
Bonifacio Global City in Taguig was also based on current
urbanism ideas, with a lot of modern architecture and state-of-the-art style,
which, combined with a clean finish, has created a city that is beautiful from
the inside out. With its cutting-edge high rises, displays of contemporary
design, wide walkways, road craftsmanship, and a few mixed-use developments containing bistros, eateries, and shops, Taguig's BGC district can be
considered one of the city's most amazing sights. It is a region that deserves
to be at the top of our list of places to see in Taguig.
