Marikina, located on Manila's
eastern outskirts, serves as a major gateway to Metro Manila, as well as Rizal,
Quezon, and other parts of the Philippines. Quezon City borders it on the west,
and Pasig and Cainta border it on the south. From 1898 to 1899, Marikina was the
provincial capital of the province of Manila, and subsequently wound up as one
of the towns that contributed majorly to the success of Philippines itself. Marikina,
formerly a provincial settlement, is now a hub for the residential and small
business sectors, making it an ideal place to live with all of the best
amenities. Marikina is also regarded as one of the richest local government
units in the Philippines!
History of Marikina
Marikina had evolved into a
shoemaker's town by the turn of the century, having started in 1887. Years of
shoemaking had honed the locals' modern hardworking attitude, which had
prepared them for the arrival of large-scale ventures in the 1950s. Because of
its thriving footwear industry, Marikina has earned the title of "Shoe Capital
of the Philippines.". The Philippine International Footwear Center is
located here, and the Shoe Museum houses the world's largest collection of
shoes in a historical center, as well as the renowned shoe collection of former
First Lady Imelda Marcos.
Marikina has successfully
established the framework of a thriving network, guided by a dream of creating
a cutting-edge and bearable city. Marikina is now a thriving metropolis known
for its vibrant business scene, exceptionally talented and friendly residents,
and a responsive local government that places a high value on its people and a
thriving economy.
